The time has come for the final installment of Boundary Waters Connect introductions to people who relocated to northeast Minnesota’s Wilderness-edge communities. Last but certainly not least, we introduce you to Megan & Jesse.
Jesse tried life in the cities and the suburbs, but couldn’t help but look back fondly on his years growing up in a small town. These days, Megan and Jesse live in Ely, where Megan works at a salon and Jesse capitalizes on his ability to work remotely. “As long as I have strong internet, I can work,” he says.
In their free time they explore the local restaurant scene and the surrounding Wilderness. They paddle in the summers and ski in the winters. They relish being able to simply “go” and get out there without having to think too much about it.
But they recognize that not everyone came here or stays here for the same reason, which is something they love about the Ely area – the eclectic mix of people. Diversity of perspective notwithstanding, Megan and Jesse note that many people around the area are committed to a more laid back, low-stress way of life. Megan and Jesse appreciate that moving slower encourages them to appreciate things more, and helps them to notice that which they used to pass by too quickly to truly see.
